\"poppy\"<\/a>In K\u00f6ln, D\u00fcsseldorf und im ganzen Rheinland beginnt jedes Jahr am 11.11., 11.11 Uhr der Karneval. In England, aber auch in Belgien und Frankreich feiert man gleichzeitig etwas ganz anderes. Der 11. November ist der sogenannte Poppy Day, an dem seit langer Zeit an die zahl- und namenlosen Opfer von Krieg und vor allem an die in den beiden Weltkriegen gefallenen Soldaten erinnert wird. Um 11 Uhr l\u00e4uteten auch in diesem Jahr hundert Jahre nach Beginn des Ersten Weltkriegs landesweit die Glocken.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Zum Gedenken an die Toten des Ersten Weltkriegs „erbl\u00fchen\u201d um den Tower of London herum gerade 888.246 Mohnblumen aus Keramik, eine Installation des K\u00fcnstlers Paul Cummins.\u00a0<\/span>Nach dem 11. November sollen die Kunstwerke aus Keramik verkauft werden. Der Erl\u00f6s kommt wohlt\u00e4tigen Organisation zu Gute. Alle Blumen sind bereits verkauft. Am 11.11.1918 war der Waffenstillstand geschlossen, der den Ersten Weltkrieg beendete.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A two-minute silence honouring those killed in conflicts since the start of WW1 took place at 11:00.<\/span>
\n In London, remembrance ceremonies took place at Westminster Abbey, the Cenotaph and Trafalgar Square. Among the commemorations elsewhere:<\/span>
\n French President Francois Hollande laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.<\/span>

\n The two-minute silence was observed across the UK, including at the Field of Remembrance in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens and the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire<\/span>.
\n A plaque was unveiled at Glasgow’s Central Station. It reads: \u201cOn these platforms, in two world wars, hundreds of thousands of servicemen and women said good-bye to their families, some for the last time.\u201d<\/span>
\nTowns, cities and villages across Wales remembered the fallen.<\/span>
